STX Eclipse 2 Review

So it’s been nearly 2 decades since the original eclipse was released and now in 2017 STX has finally released a successor… The Eclipse 2

style wise the Eclipse 2 has been slightly updated, the head has a more modern aggressive look and overall I think it looks awesome. With a brand new look and features STX was still able to make the head considerably stiffer and easier to string than the previous model.

Going from the Top down, the scoop has been slightly updated (How was the scoop compared to the OG) The Scoop for me felt more stable because of the increase of thickness of the head it did not bend or move it was straightforward and smooth.

There are 2 concaved sections in the scoop to further reduce weight (did it feel lighter than the OG)  The Eclipse 2 for me felt lighter plus with the upgraded thickness makes the head more sturdy, reliable and lighter.

A big change would be the Sidewall structure and overall stiffness. Now the design is slightly different but its more aggressive looking on the 2

Stiffness wise it’s a lot stiffer than the original eclipse but not as stiff as the STX shield but then again the shield has C channel while the 2 doesn’t. Most original stx eclipse users are really going to appreciate the updated stiffness as the original was known for letting in shots due to it flexing to much.

For stringing, the original had around 10 sidewall holes for each side, and depending on where you start your topstring with 2 you’ll have around 15 to 17 sidewall holes to create your pattern with.

STX dropped the top string hole amount from 11 to 7 so it should be a bit less tricky to get your topstring down

Also a big change the eclipse 2 has 6 clearly placed bottom string holes as opposed to the strange bottom string arrangement the original had

Our is strung with STX Memory 12D mesh, the mesh strings up and plays okay but we still prefer String King Grizzly 12D

One of the biggest updates with the new head would be the throat (it’s now ergonomically shaped and gives you a bit more comfort and control when you’re between the pipes)

Aswell there are 2 screw holes in the throat to reduce the chances of getting head wobble

The STX Eclipse 2 is a huge update for goalies and original eclipse fans for $15 you get a head thats stiffer, easier to string, better scoop, and in the end better looking.
