This is a real cryptocurrency. Despite the fact that it was originally created as joke this meme coin has actually gained a lot of support and has a very active and passionate community.

Dogecoin was created by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus.

The Dogecoin foundation and community have actually managed to raise tens of thousands of dollars for various charity events such as raising money to help fund the Jamaican Bobsled Team to go to the 2014 Winter Olympics to building water wells in Africa.

They also managed to raise 67.8 million Dogecoins (around $55,000 at that time) to sponsor NASCAR driver Josh Wise. This resulted in the Josh Wise’s racecar being a Dogecoin/Reddit sponsor and was painted with the adorable Shiba Inu Doge.
