Bitcoin Crash | Binance Hack and SEC

On March 7 2018 Bitcoin crashed from almost $11,000 down to under $9,600. This crash happened in a matter of minutes, and many are wondering why the Bitcoin crashed so hard and so fast. Although there are many reasons as to why this Bitcoin crash may have happened, there are two main reasons as to why I think we are seeing this volatility today. The first reason is the SEC. After the Securities and Exchange Commission said cryptocurrency exchanges must register with regulators, Bitcoin started to crash. However, the SEC Bitcoin announcement isn’t the only thing that happened today. The second thing that happened today was the Binance hack. Binance was hacked and it immediately affected the entire crypto market. Many people noticed something highly unusual with Viacoin happening right before the crash. There was a huge increase in buy orders for Viacoin on Binance. In just a few minutes, Viacoin’s market capitalization jumped from $64 million to $159 million. It seems like a third-party service or app got compromised. Users of that third-party app were relying on API keys to control Binance accounts. A hacker may have developed a bot that submits orders at the same time.
