Following news that Facebook has formed a blockchain division, rumors are saying the social media giant is now looking into creating its own cryptocurrency. According to financial news network Cheddar this week, Facebook is “exploring” incorporating cryptocurrency onto their platform for payment transactions. When asked for comment, a Facebook spokesperson admitted that the company’s efforts in this area are still in their early days. The spokesman explained, “Like many other companies, Facebook is exploring ways to leverage the power of blockchain technology. This new small team will be exploring many different applications. We don’t have anything further to share.”
