Nearly five years ago, we began an exploration of Jai Alai, an intensely fast sport that originated in Spain. Jai Alai is played with a cesta, a piece of equipment which resembles a basket with a curved scoop that can produce shot speeds of nearly 200 MPH. Over time, we’ve mastered this sport’s unique mechanic of velocity and translated it to the sport of lacrosse.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE DESIGN

Starting with the Jai Alai cesta, we went through multiple iterations of modified heads to mimic the angle of the scoop for maximum performance and speed. Using a variety of heads and other products, we eventually came to the final Ultra Power design and created the Power RampTM.

A 90 MPH shot takes approximately 0.27 seconds to travel 12 yards. In that same amount of time, a 93 MPH shot has traveled 1.2 ft farther.

Considering that it takes the goalie 0.2 seconds to physically react to what he is seeing, a 93 MPH shot gives him around 12% less time to make the save than a 90 MPH shot.

It’s the difference between a goal and a save, between high fives with your teammates, and hustling back on defense while shaking your head. The advantage is real.
