Nelson Chamisa’s lawyer speaks on secret strategies to counter ZEC and Zanu PF rigging mechanisms.
Harare lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu has uncharacteristically waded into the political fray by conducting a press conference where he made insinuations that nothing short of a Nelson Chamisa victory will be acceptable to his client.
Advocate Mpofu told journalists that the electoral mother body, ZEC had given his client a raw deal but they had numerous secret strategies which they will activate to deal with rigging mechanisms and ensure a transfer of power once his client emerges victorious.
During the election season, lawyers are usually visible at the courts filing electoral petitions, but this time around, Advocate Mpofu joined the political fray.
He said he is the MDC Alliance leader’s legal advisor and in a press conference held in Harare today, Advocate Mpofu made a number of bold assertions about the expected outcome in this year’s polls.
The media probed the lawyer on the secret strategies but he refused to divulge them, choosing to be evasive.
On whether his speech could stoke the fires of violence, the lawyer again remained evasive and maintained he was speaking as an emissary for his client.
Ironically, Mpofu’s press conference did not speak to the legal route but made a lot of open ended insinuations that point to the only expected outcome in this election due in four days time.
The Electoral Act however provides dispute resolution frameworks and the judiciary set up several courts to deal with disputes.
