Project Update: Lisk (LSK) the Javascript Blockchain Application Platform

Basics

Lisk is a Blockchain application platform, established in early 2016.

It will enable developers to create, distribute and manage decentralized Blockchain applications by deploying their own sidechain linked to the Lisk network, including a custom token.

It is based on its own Blockchain network and token LSK and has similarities to other smart contract platforms like Ethereum or NEO but uses Javascript which is one of the most popular programming languages.

Lisk had ICO between February and March 2016 and raised over 14k BTC

Tokens and usage

Lisk uses sidechains and a complete Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable a complete kit allowing developers to produce dapps and an independent blockchain under one system. This side blockchain is linked to and secured by the separately maintained Lisk blockchain.

Lisk is written in JavaScript (which is the most popular language for web applications) and is using Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) consensus algorithm.

There is no maximum amount of Lisk tokens in circulation but the inflation rate will decrease over time. Lisk (LSK) is a usage or utility token. It is used to pay for the network fees which occur for different types of transactions: for example sending the token around, registering a delegate, setup of a multi-sig account or voting for delegate

Recent News

The biggest news happened at the end of August where the Lisk Core 1.0 was moved to mainnet. Lisk Core runs on all nodes on the network. The 1.0 introduces new features and improvements.

Along with the release of Lisk Core 1.0, the team have released Lisk Elements 1.0, Lisk Commander 1.0, Lisk Hub 1.0, Lisk Explorer 2.1.4 and Lisk Nano 2.0

They recently annouced a new and improved Lisk Ambassador Program – they will hold meetups about Lisk in their communities providing a ‘decentralised’ marketing.

The team is looking for almost 20 new employees (based in Berlin)

Roadmap

The roadmap on the website is out of date (basically development was delayed) but during the recent AMA the team said that they are working on the new roadmap.

The team is providing regular development updates and is also providing ‘next steps’ which are basically upcoming short term developments.

According to the old roadmap some of the developments that should soon finish are :
new fee and address system modularisation
custom tokens
dapp registration and managemenet
decentrealised exchange and sidechains

Availability and price

LISK is listed on several exchanges with:
YoBit (39% of volume)
CoingEgg (19%)
HitBTC (10%)
Binance (9%)
also on Extrates, Livecoin, Bittrex, Poloniex and more

Current price as of 21st of September is around $3.44 with LISK being ranked on 24th place in terms of the market capitalisation and market cap of around $380M

Around 110M out of 125M of the tokens is in the circulation meaning not that many new tokens will be introduced

Price graph

LISK has been doing quite poorly this year: lost both in terms of value in BTC and fiat. The ATH has been achieved during the January pump. Since then lisk had a second pump at the end of Feburary but the price decreased significantly since then. At the peek the mcap was almost 4B

How is it doing?

Lisk had some delays with the development which has negatively impacted the price this year but the recent developments were good.

It is one of the older blockchain projects out there. They have almost 60 employees according to LinkedIn and are looking for additional 20 employees. This means they are one of the biggest teams in blockchain.

The main selling point of Lisk is the usage of Javascript and providing full service to easily create blockchains.

There are several dapps being developed on Lisk so if they can attract more developers the future is promising but Lisk underwhelming performance this year might discourage investors. I feel that Lisk should work on the marketing a bit more.
