Introducing nRF9160 DK for cellular IoT applications

The nRF9160 DK is an affordable, fully featured single board development kit for developing with the nRF9160 System-in-Package using LTE-M, NB-IoT and GPS. It features a full LTE modem with LTE-M, NB-IoT and GPS support, additionally there is a dedicated application processor and integrated RF Front End (RFFE) and Power Management IC (PMIC) and all passives. The nRF9160 is requires an external SIM card, a power source and an antenna to be up and running.

The nRF9160 DK makes all GPIO (32) and peripherals available at edge connectors and the kit conforms to the Arduino Rev. 3 standard meaning it can be interfaced easily to the wide range of shields available in this form factor. There are 2 x user-programmable buttons, 2 x user-programmable switches and 4 x user-programmable LEDs. It supports Segger J-Link OB for program and debug and has debug IN/OUT for use with external boards. It can be connected to a computer to use Nordic’s development tools using the micro USB port on board. There are antennas for LTE, GPS and 2.4GHz.

The kit has an nRF52840 multiprotocol SoC on board which performs board management functions and can be used to develop hybrid applications that use both low power LTE and shorter range technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, ANT and 2.4GHz proprietary.
