Canon EOS RP: D.O.A?

If the RP had been the camera Canon announced instead of the R, this might be a very different conversation. Instead, Canon is now two for two just as FujiFilm simultaneously announces the X-T30: a day late, a product lifecycle short, a few slices shy of a full functional loaf. You may disagree, and reasonable people can. But how did Canon get to the point where on the day they announce the smallest, cheapest full frame camera ever, Fuji announces a $400 cheaper, mostly functionally comparable, sometimes superior APS-C camera?
