Vlogging with the EOS R. HOT DAMN!!

Here is my first vlog with the EOS R. It was mostly filmed on the 16-35 2.8 with the Bayonet Adapter. I also used this set up with a Zhiyun-tech V2 Gimbal (same one I’m giving away in the next video). My first impressions were good but I’m still finding my way around the camera and will likely need another couple Vlogs to really get comfortable with it.

In this video I spoke a lot about the dual pixel auto focus and low light performance. Once in the editing suite I noticed that they we’re not as ‘on point’ as I had originally thought. I know they’re both good I just need to feel out when and where they both perform best paired with my current lenses. That’ll be a learning curve for sure.

The no IBIS (plus none on the lens) is definitely a big difference from the GH5 and one I noticed immediately while editing. Had to boost warp stabilizer a lot for this video. I must admit I really like the dual IS with the GH5 and native lenses so I’m not sure how I’m going to feel vlogging in the future with the R. I’ll probably stick mostly with the GH5 for Vlogs and only use the R in low light and for the 4K timelapses. Plus ALAS I bought it as a new stills camera and there it performed great.

As a stills camera I am thoroughly impressed with the image quality and set up thus far. I need many more sessions to use it blindly, but right off the bat it felt comfortable for setting up compositions and getting the right exposure. That’s a great feeling. I think for stills I’m made a great decision.
