Canon EOS R vs 6D Mark II: In Depth Review!

The Canon 6DII is my favorite camera of all time, but recently…something unexpected happened. My world has been turned upside down, and I’m quickly coming to love the EOS R.

Ultimately, The important thing in me choosing the EOS R is that I’m not looking to replace my 6DII. I’m looking for an additional camera that will help to improve my workflow and expand some creative options.

The EOS R is still pretty expensive, but can often be found on sale or at a discount through sites like Canon Price Watch. But if you’re trying to save as much money as possible, it’s hard not to recommend the 6D II. It generally runs about $700 less than the R, and for that price, it’s practically impossible to beat.

What surprised me most about the R is just how FUN it is to use. There are some changes to ergonomics, but they make sense once you get used to them, and for whatever reason, it’s just a genuinely enjoyable camera to work with. It doesn’t feel quite as robust as the 6D or a 5D, but it’s very well built and delivers options we could only dream of just a few years ago. The 6D Mark II has a record of reliability for me that the EOS R hasn’t yet had a chance to build. So while the 6D II is still my favorite camera of all time, I can imagine the R claiming that title in the not too distant future.
