Cities of the future: IOTA, Jaguar Land Rover, Engie Lab Crigen & Entra showcase energy traceability

IOTA showcases Proof of Concept (PoC) to trace energy provenance and usage between Jaguar I-Pace vehicle and ENTRA’s Powerhouse building in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), ENGIE Lab CRIGEN and Entra.

The demonstration took place at the grand opening of the Powerhouse energy-positive building – the world’s northernmost energy-positive building in Trondheim | Norway. The vehicle was connected to the Powerhouse building through an electric charger. The Tangle, IOTA’s distributed ledger technology, was used to create a record of all transactions and sources.

JLR announced earlier this year the development of an IOTA Smart Wallet to secure and monetize data exchanges with its vehicles. Aligned with JLR’s Destination Zero vision (zero accidents, zero congestion, and zero emissions), the potential use of the wallet is further expanded by this new initiative to bring a JLR I-Pace vehicle, elected World car of the year 2019, at the heart of IOTA smart city co-creation work.

“This agile initiative demonstrates vividly how cities can transform both infrastructure and transportation into a sustainable and mutually beneficial ecosystem,” said Russell Vickers, manager, JLR’s vehicle-as-a-service engineering group.

The collaboration is one of IOTA’s next-generation IoT initiatives to advance towards open and transparent cities of the future.
