In this short video I compare the contrast autofocus of the Leica Q2 Monochrom and the Leica Q2.
My hypotheses was that the monochrome sensor will do better with contrast autofocus than the color sensor.
But it turned out that the two cameras are pretty much comparable when it comes to autofocus speed and in general locking-in focus.
My intuition after the test remained that the monochrom sensor “feels” more speedy and spot-on in its autofocus but in the test shooting I did not find true proof of evidence for such “gut feeling”.
I also compare the autofocus of the two Leica Q2 cameras with the autofocus of the Canon EOS R5 which incorporates phase detection.
Based on design and construction, the two Leica cameras are not built to compare with a camera like the EOS R5 and in the video I clearly demonstrate that the two Q2s have no chance to compete with a camera like the EOS R5 when it comes to autofocus speed and finding focus.
