Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts.
Smart contract is a computer program that directly controls the transfer of digital currencies or assets between parties under certain conditions.
Those contracts run on blockchain: a shared global infrastructure that can move value around and represent the ownership of property.
Ethereum was proposed in late 2013 by Vitalik Buterin and had ICO that finished in September 2014 where it raised just over $18 million.
