So you want to know my thoughts about cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. First of all I understand how government backed money is created through debt. I understand that there’s nothing backing it and governments and banks can digitally create as much of it as they want and can devalue it to virtually nothing. But I also know that I have to pay my income tax, property tax, road tolls and consumer taxes in the currency that my government backs, the Canadian dollar. Sure I can convert bitcoins and pay my taxes with the money I get for cashing them in but at the end of the day the amount of stuff I can buy using bitcoins versus the stuff I can buy with government backed currency is limited, for now. When everything is taken into consideration Canadians that work and consume pay about fifty percent of their income to the government in the government backed currency. So long as that continues the government has nothing to worry about. But if the government goes broke or faces hyperinflation or even regular inflation at five to ten percent people will realise that bitcoin and etherium might be a better store of value than cash. What do you think is happening in places like Venezuela and even Argentina? People are realising that if they take their local currencies and convert them into cryptocurrencies they will preserve and even grow their purchasing power. Who in their right mind wouldn’t convert their currency over to bitcoins if it was experiencing inflation. As I write the script for this video Bitcoin is touching ten thousand dollars per coin.
