Gold vs Bitcoin: Which One Is The Best Investment? An Interview with Robin Lee, CEO of Hello Gold

The hype over blockchain projects, cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings over the past 18 months has been phenomenal. More than $6.9 billion has been raised through ICOs this year alone, ICO Data statistics show. But is the hype actually preventing projects delivering on their promises? Robin Lee, the CEO of HelloGold, a Kuala Lumpur-based platform which uses blockchain to bring gold-backed tokens to the mass market, believes that crypto frenzy has piled pressure on individual teams to justify the funds they raise.

“It distracts them because then everyone is focused on the token price”, Lee said in an interview with CryptoCoin.News. “Certainly, we were guilty of that just as much as anyone else in the early days, because everyone is just caught up in the frenzy, which means you’re actually not focused on delivering on the very thing that people (who) bought your tokens, give you the ability to do.”

Lee also argues that many investors in 2018 have piled funds into the ICO market without fully understanding the real risks involved.

“Ultimately, ICOs are fundraising exercises of one description or another for startups – and startups are inherently risky. These are not mature companies by any means.”

Prior to founding HelloGold, Robin Lee was the CFO of the World Gold Council and principal accounting officer for SPDR Gold, once the largest ETF in the world. He explains that even managing investors in a multi-billion dollar fund was not a 24/7 job, unlike in the ICO business.
