The Longships are Burning is the second demo single of Latvian Epic Black Metal project Protean. The song tells the tale about the end of the Viking Age, and the burning longships symbolizes the passing of the deeds of war and adventures into the realm of legends.

Protean is a Black Metal project started back in 2013, and since then it is developed and masterminded by two well known Latvian Metal Underground personalities – Mr. Jānis Krivāns (ex-Moonveil, ex-Urskumug) and Mr. Edmunds Vizla (Frailty). The band was recently joined by Mr. Jānis Bušs (Eschatos), to be its lead vocalist. The music of Protean is a mixture of epic Black Metal with added Industrial and Orchestral notes. The songs deal with the themes of history, warfare, legends and folk tales.
