Rub it in, an English expression, is a way of talking about something that causes more discomfort to someone who is already experiencing discomfort. Let me explain:
To make someone feel even worse about something
To talk about something embarrassing that happened to someone, especially when that someone is in the conversation. Or, they are making you feel jealous by bragging about getting something that they know you want.
I think it came from medical world, where rubbing salt on an open wound causes physical pain. You’ll notice I used a picture of a cut for this video, but kept it small for the queasy among us.
Examples:
Just keep rubbing it in, won’t you?
Stop trying to rub it in!
