Freedom of speech in Azerbaijan on the verge of extinction

With President Aliyev’s on his 4thpresidential term, now, more than ever before the free and independent media of Azerbaijan is under attack. The authorities are continuing their crackdown against the press by enforcing internet censure, closing up media outlets and even going so far as imprisoning or even murdering the independent and oppositional journalists, bloggers and members of their families.
Freedom of speech in Azerbaijan is in urgent need of urgent assistance from the OSCE member states.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety cordially invites you, Tuesday, September 11th, Meeting Room 1, from 8.15a.m. to 9.45a.m. to our side event where Harry Hummel, Senior Policy Advisor for the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, Melissa Hooper, Director of Human Rights and Civil Society, Rubina Möhring, President for Reporters Wothout Borders, Austria, Simon Papuashvili, the Program Director for the International Partnership for Human Rights and Emin Huseynov, Executive Director for the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, will talk about the key issues of Azerbaijan and what could be done to make the country conform to the international human rights and freedom of the press standards.
