You probably won’t need to worry too much about coin farming as you’re making your way through the main game, because you’ll be too busy focusing on Power Moons and the rescue mission for Princess Peach. However, when you’ve seen off Bowser on the moon and made your way around the well-tended lawns of Mushroom Kingdom then you’ll probably have a few reasons to get grinding on coins instead.

The two main reasons for this is that there are a few coin collection challenges from Toadette to go for and there’s also the 9,999 coin shell-out for the skeleton costume to work up to. Neither one are essential as such, unless your aim is to hit the 100% completion mark or you just look good in bones, but they are pretty good trinkets to go for.

As a result, you’ll want to do a healthy amount of coin farming in the aftermath of the main story and there are a few options to go for. There are a few false promises along the way though, including the 245 coin stack you can pick up in the hidden room in Bowser Kingdom, which is a one time only deal, unfortunately.

The good news is that there are also a few bankers that you can use to churn out coins on loop. Some are faster than others, with the opposite side of Bowser Kingdom being home to the best, which results in a huge 180 coins in a minute flat. The problem is that this can become monotonous and there are still plenty of other things to do after completing the main game, so it can be restrictive.

While this is worth visiting every now and again, the smarter approach is to use the general loops in every kingdom as you’re continuing on your merry Moon hunt. This essentially means finding an area with a good batch of coins and then using either fast travel or Crazy Cap stores to reset the coin locations to be able to do it all again whenever you want.
