In Parliament on Monday (5 Apr), MP for West Coast GRC Ang Wei Neng had asked about the impact of Hong Kong’s announcement to bar Singapore Airlines (SIA) flights till 16 April.
In response, Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung affirmed that this suspension will not affect talks on a travel bubble between both cities.
Mr Ong also noted that there were 23 cases of similar suspension by Hong Kong authorities, as they set in place “very transparent criteria” for airlines. A combination of “technical breaches” had resulted in SIA’s temporary suspension.
The Government of Hong Kong on 2 April said it prohibits Singapore Airlines passenger flights departing from Singapore to land in Hong Kong from 3 April to 16 April, after a passenger flying from Singapore to Hong Kong on 31 March was confirmed to have COVID-19.
