Ham To Teri Ada Par (Vyakhya & Qawwali)

Ham To Teri Ada Par (Vyakhya & Qawwali)

A beautiful gazal composed by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj. He himself explains the gist of this gazal, which is later sung by Sushri Urmila Mathur, Braj Banchari Ji and a few other satsangees. (Mangarh, 1990) Brief meaning below:

hum to teri ada par fida ho gaye, deeno duniya sabhi alvida ho gaye
(A devotee says to God, “I have sacrificed myself on your charms! I have bid farewell to the this world (duniya) and the celestial abodes (deen))

ab na jannat ki khwaish na dozakh ka dar, dil ki awkat kya hum to khud kho gaye
(I have not the slightest desire for heaven nor do I fear of going to hell. What to say of my heart, I myself, am lost in your love)

ab khuda ki ibadat ki adat gayi, hum hi tum ho gaye tum hi hum ho gaye
(Now my habit of formally worshiping God has gone. Now I have become you and you have become me)

bewafa tum sa koi na dekha suna, fir bhi laute na wo tere dar jo gaye
(I have not seen nor heard anyone as treacherous as you! Despite this, no one returns to the world after coming to you!)

bewafa ki zafa hi hai sacchi vafa, raz ve jante jo tere ho gaye!
(Being faithful despite knowing that the beloved is treacherous, is true love. This secret is only known by those who have become yours!)

– Shri Maharajji had later changed the last line to
“razda hai ‘kripalu’ tere ho gaye’. Meaning is the same.
