Hurricane Iota slammed into Honduras on Tuesday, after carving a path through Nicaragua and Colombia, leaving the country dealing with flooding and members of the military clearing debris from roads.
Colombian President Ivan Duque said that humanitarian aid would arrive, but the country’s Providencia region had seen 98 to 99 per cent of its infrastructure destroyed and at least one person dead. The archipelago Duque referenced saw numerous homes damaged, some left in shambles, and without electricity.
Iota began to hit Central America on Monday, with Nicaragua, Colombia, Mexico and Honduras impacted. The storm, alongside Hurricane Eta which hit the region last week, was the first time two major hurricanes had formed in the Atlantic basin in November since records began.
