Melissa Barthelemy was the first of four skeletal remains to be discovered along the remote shores of Gilgo Beach in southern Long Island. The discovery of Melissa, followed by three more bodies in the area, unleashed a media firestorm that would soon give way to the Long Island Serial Killer case. But before the sensationalism, before Melissa’s murder, she was a woman with a family and friends who loved her. This episode tells the story about Melissa and the series of seemingly arbitrary events that eventually led to her murder.
